India A beats New Zealand A by seven wickets in first ODI thanks to Shardul’s brilliant bowling: India A defeated New Zealand A by 7 wickets in the first unofficial ODI match played between India A and New Zealand A in Chennai. Batting first, New Zealand scored 167 runs in 40.2 overs. In reply, the Indian team won the match by scoring 170 runs in 31.5 overs for the loss of 3 wickets. Thus, India took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

Indian team won the toss and decided to bowl first. Batting first, New Zealand A’s opening batsman Chad Bowes guided Shardul Thakur to the pavilion with a personal 10 runs. Dan Cleaver was Shardul’s second victim by scoring 4 runs. Joe Carter managed just 1 run and was walked by Kuldeep Sen.

The second opening batsman Rachin Ravindra could also contribute only 10 runs. Tom Bruce also didn’t get a chance to open the account and New Zealand’s score was 27/5. A few more wickets fell but Michael Rippon and Joe Walker put in careful batting to take the team’s score to 163. Walker returned to the pavilion with 36 runs.

At the same time, Ripon, who scored the highest 61 runs, was out as the last wicket. In this way, the whole team was stunned by 167 runs. Shardul Thakur took four wickets and Kuldeep Sen three wickets for India ‘A’.

Chasing the target, India got the first shock of 35 runs. Opening batsman Prithvi Shaw was dismissed for 17 runs. Rituraj Gaikwad and Rahul Tripathi scored a half-century for the second wicket.

Gaikwad scored 41 runs off 54 balls with three fours and two sixes. Tripathi also scored 31 runs. After these two were dismissed, Sanju Samson and Rajat Patidar added 69 runs for the fourth wicket to give India victory. Patidar remained unbeaten on 45 and Samson on 29.
