Former Pakistan spin bowler Danish Kaneria said Omran Malik should have got a place in the T20 World Cup.Former Pakistan player Danish Kaneria believes India made a mistake by not giving Omran Malik enough opportunities to bowl fast ahead of the T20 World Cup. According to him, Omran should have been taken as a replacement for Avesh Khan in the recently concluded Asia Cup. Then the selectors should have decided based on the performance.

In IPL 2022, there was much talk about the pace of Omran Malik, who took 22 wickets in 14 matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad and was selected in the T20 India squad. However, his appearances in two T20Is on the Irish tour and one T20I match against England did not go well and he was dropped from the team.

The former spinner pointed out that the Indian team will need someone who can bowl fast in the T20 World Cup to be held in Australia. He said that Jasprit Bumrah has just returned from injury and hence should not expect the same from him.

On his YouTube channel, Kaneria said, “They could have tried Omran Malik too. India need a bowler who can bowl good pace on Australian tracks. Jasprit Bumrah is recovering from injury and will take time to get his pace back. I know he is still very raw. But You need someone with that kind of pace. Umran should have replaced Avesh in the Asia Cup. It will give them a clear assessment.”

Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel need to settle into the rhythm soon for the Indian team
The former leg-spinner stressed on both Bumrah and Harshal Patel that it will be important to be in good form during the T20I series against Australia. Kaneria said, ‚ÄúThere are still question marks over Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness. He is all set for his comeback and it remains to be seen how he performs. Harshal Patel is also returning from injury. It will be very important for them to get their form and speed back quickly.”
